1 – Digital Innovation meetup

Hosted in Google’s London campus, this free-to-attend Digital Innovation meetup is the perfect event to rock up to if you want to engage in discussions and networking with like-minded people. With three speakers covering everything from Marketing and Strategy to Design and Publishing, this meetup will keep you up to date with the ‘latest trends and changes that are impacting the digital world’.
There are light refreshments, and although it’s free to attend, you do have to register.

2 – Magfest
Issue 03 – Innovation
Friday 5 September
Surgeon’s Hall, Edinburgh
Magfest have managed to bag a sterling line-up of speakers, from Wyatt Mitchell, the Creative Director at The New Yorker, to Audra Martin, a vice-president at The Economist Group. With the theme of ‘Innovation’, this event is an absolute must for publishers and those in the industry passionate about the cutting-edge of magazine design. To top it off, there’s an ‘Innovation in Magazines’ exhibition which will also be touring Scotland’s libraries, universities and publishers after the event.
Prices range from £43-£85 depending on PPA membership/student status.

3 – Digital Publishing Masterclass
Tuesday 7 October
Century Club, 61-63 Shaftesbury Avenue, London
Aimed at senior publishing executives, this half-day masterclass will show how to use the latest digital marketing tools to ‘generate new business and retain loyal customers across all customer touchpoints’. They will be covering mobile apps, search and ecommerce strategies, social media, CRM and affiliate marketing, so if you think your business would benefit from an in-depth consultation with digital experts, it’s worth booking on. Sky, Harrods and Metro Newspapers are among the big names to confirm their attendance so far…
Best of all, it’s completely free to attend as long as you register.

4 – Frankfurt Book Fair
Wednesday 8 – Sunday 12 October
Messegelände, Frankfurt, Germany
7,275 exhibitors from 102 nations, 631 literary agents, 9,300 journalists, 275,342 visitors and 170,664 professionals…the Frankfurt Book Fair is without question the place to be in Europe for publishing professionals. Although this covers a wide range of industry events, digital professionals will be excited to know that one of the Fair’s ‘Hot Spots’ is on Digital Innovation, showcasing new solutions for the future of digital publishing.

5 – Digital Publishing Innovation Summit
Thursday 16 – Friday 17 October
Park Plaza Victoria, London
If you’re responsible for publishing strategy or digital planning, this is a must-attend event. With a speaker selection from the crème de la crème of Digital Publishing expertise, interactive workshops, detailed case studies and plenty of networking opportunities, the summit will cover every aspect of digital publishing you could dream of along the theme of ‘What is Next for the Publisher?’
This goes further than just needing you to book though. A highly-exclusive event with a high proportion of senior-level attendees, you have to request an invitation. So, if you can convince the organisers that you’re worth an invite, it’s got fantastic ratings as an event – you’ll learn a lot from the speakers and make some valuable contacts.

6 – PPA Digital Awards
Wednesday 19 November
InterContinental Park Lane, London
It’s the time of year when the brightest and best in the industry gather to celebrate the champions of the Digital Publishing world. The self-proclaimed ‘digital party of the year’ will celebrate ‘the people behind the most exciting, innovative and creative work out there today’, and is undoubtedly the place to be for both digital publishing newbies and seasoned PPA-goers.
For those interested in entering, the award categories are open until September 15th, so there’s still plenty of time to submit an entry via their website.
